Health Mantra – Early to Bed and Early to Rise:

If you don’t care about your health, It wouldn’t be too long before you would be forced to take care of your health but by then, in due course of time the damage would have already been done by you. Regular exercise is a must, and there is no short cut or outsourcing possible, where in you can assign this to someone else, you may not feel that now but as days pass by and you add up years, your would see early signs and still if you ignore them then its disaster awaiting you.

Though technology has made things easy for us at every front and we always tend to do things the easy and comfort way, we never analyze the health hazards that it may bring in to our everyday lives. Lets begin a day from home and analyze how many gadgets, equipments and appliances we use to make things easy for us in getting our day-to-day activities done.

We are forced to getup in the morning with the ring of alarm, we move to the bedroom attached toilets and open the tap or shower we have water (hot or cold) at our disposal, we use European style lavatories for our comfort and style.

Lets analyze, how our forefathers would have started their day, They would have got up early in the morning as they didn’t had televisions, late night movies, parties, discotheques. So they would happily got up early in the morning as their mantra would have been “Early to bed and Early to rise, Makes a man health wealth and wise.” As so were they health by all means, they had draw water from well or would have to walk down to the river bank to fetch water, they didn’t had western style lavatories or showers, A lot of physical activity was involved in such a short span of time, their muscles were stretched and strengthened day by day.

The new gen-man, before running for our work places, (running on cars, bikes, buses or taxies) how hardly we work out and move around, meantime for breakfast one would or his wife or mother would prefer something ready to eat or easy to cook stuff and would pack something for lunch too…

Getting out from home to the parking yard how much we all walk, we prefer not to walk as much possible, use an elevator and directly on to the car, bike or taxi and right in front of the office building and using the elevator and a few steps directly on to the seats with a computer telephone and couple of mobile phones.

All day fight with gadgets begins, sitting on his chair, ensuring minimal movement or activity and in-between, squeezing some time for lunch and snacks with tea or coffee. And pretty soon huh its time to rush back to home and again before going to bed we buyout time from sleep and pushing the body to limits, before going to bed and many of us would say 24 hours is not enough in a day.

Now just think for a while how much physical activity is done by each one of us every day, though technology is boon for us but we need to perform or get involved in more physical activities to maintain good health, the early man was farmer and a lot of physical labour was involved in his work. Hence in olden times people were physically fit, healthy and mentally sound (stress free). As for the saying: “A health mind lives in health body”, Its it is true by all means as one who is healthy would be confidently dealing with his/her odd circumstances.

Hence after analyzing all the fact one must realize that a deliberate, concrete measure and efforts are to be made to improve the health condition, before things get worse and you start spending your hard earned money for treatment.

Everyone talk about the benefits of exercising, now lets analyze what will happen if one doesn’t exercise at all. Of course these are some of the known common risk.

Weakening of Muscles and Bones: Without regular use, the muscles and bones may grow weak. And this will cause serious harm, as a person grows old. Generally people lose muscle and bone mass as they age. This means that if they have not built up their muscles and bones over the years, they are more likely to suffer from fractures and muscular problems. Also lack of exercise has been linked to osteoporosis in women. Not exercising can also make arthritis pain and disability more severe. Lower Back pain affects millions of people and can be a crippling problem. If you do not exercise regularly, then you are at a greater risk of suffering from back pain.

Risk of a Heart Attack: The heart is a muscle and any muscle needs to be used regularly in order to be strong and fit. Aerobic exercise is the best way to strengthen the heart muscle and can help prevent heart attacks and other serious cardiac disease. People who do not exercise are more likely to have higher blood pressure. Also, not exercising can decrease the body’s ability to control the insulin levels and glucose metabolism.

Prevention is better than cure: Exercising helps boost up the immune system and keep diseases at bay.

Obesity: Not exercising can lead to obesity depending on your food intake, and obesity is a major factor in a wide range of health problems including heart disease, diabetes, stroke and cancer. Exercise is one of the key factors in weight control. At least sixty minutes of exercise each day for weight control.

Mental Health: Exercise improves mood, concentration and helps our bodies deal with stress and anxiety by releasing chemicals such as serotonin, endorphins and dopamine. People who do not exercise find themselves more fatigued and unable to concentrate. People who do not exercise consistently are also more likely to have episodes of depression.

Now you know that about the serious effects of a lack of exercise, now, the choice is yours and you need to work out you may not know how to add exercise into your life. You should start small at first and try these tips. You will be more likely to stick to exercise if it is something you like to do. If you hate running, then do not make yourself jog every day. Instead, try a swimming class or shuttle badminton. If you are not good at sticking to a consistent schedule, then try exercising with a friend or joining a team sport and you can join them and compete with other players at your skill level. You may find that you are severely out of shape when you start, but, do not give up. Soon you will find that your fitness level has drastically improved. So start exercising today to protect your body now and for years to come.

Some of the tips for work out while on work. Its not that you have come across these tips for the first time, but, to provoke you to put them into action.

  • Always use stairs when ever possible, you not only save energy but also you are strengthening your lower back, thigh and calf muscles.
  • Always maintain posture.
  • Support your back while sitting on a chair.
  • Stretch and relax in between while sitting for long hours.
